Dr. Khaleed Alston, Founder of Doctor Notes
"I built this because of my mom. Her name was Nuri. She had metastatic breast cancer, and my family spent years trying to keep up with what the oncologist said. Everyone relaying the same visit, losing pieces along the way. There was no good tool for that. So I built one."

Common questions

Is it legal to record my doctor?
Recording laws vary by state. Some states require only your consent (one-party consent), while others require everyone in the conversation to agree. We recommend checking your state's laws and letting your doctor know. Most providers are supportive once they understand it helps you follow their instructions.
Should I tell my doctor I'm recording?
We recommend it. Most doctors appreciate that you want to remember their guidance accurately. A simple "I'd like to record this so I can review it with my family" is usually all it takes. Many providers are already used to patients doing this.
Will my family need the app to see my visit summary?
Yes — when you share a visit, your family members download the app (it's free) and view the summary there. It takes about a minute to set up, and there's no limit to how many family members you can share with.
Is my information private?
Your records are yours. Nobody sees them unless you choose to share. No hospital. No insurance company.
What if the room is noisy or the doctor talks fast?
For the best results, keep your phone on the table or in your lap with the screen facing up. Point the bottom of the phone toward the doctor for the clearest audio. Doctor Notes is designed to capture conversation clearly, even when doctors move quickly.

You deserve to understand
what your doctor said.

Your next appointment doesn't have to end with "wait, what did they say again?"
